NAACP study finds five of six Tea Party groups are headed by "birthers."
It would be great if it were no more complicated than marveling over how dumb this whole "birther" concept is, but considering how many other occasions of racism within the Tea Party we've seen this year, and considering the extreme nature of the claim of the president not having been born in the U.S., it's clear that much of this movement had been a gathering place for extremist whites. The worst thing about it is the weirdness of it-- of the claim itself, but more so, that so very many people believe it. This seems like an event from a piece of juvenile literature in which an alien power invades earth and makes use of a form of mass mind control-- something out of John Christopher's The White Mountains. But this is real and these people have gathered together, and are likely to remain together for some time. I realize it will probably simply dry up and become forgotten, but I can't shake this sense of a potential danger hanging over and about this whole movement.

It gets a bit difficult for the teabaggers to claim that they aren't racists when they subscribe to loony nonsense like this.
ReplyDeleteThen again, I think this teabagger nonsense is a testament to the growing stupidity of the American populace; this crap can only be believed by people with little or no proper training in critical thought. The decades-long right-wing assault on public education is finally bearing fruit.
